Green iguanas are usually brought home to care as well as pamper. But you should know that there are many types of iguanas are present in this world. Many can be seen only in forests in their natural habitat and these types are not available at pet stores.

Iguanas can be classified into six types, they are:

1. The desert iguana, Dipsosaurus.
2. Spiny tailed iguana, Ctenosaura.
3. Casque-headed iguana, Lemanctus.
4. The helmeted iguana, Corytophanes.
5. The rock and rhinoceros iguana, Cyclura.
6. The Madagascar iguana, Chalarodon.
7. Green iguana.

The most famous of these iguanas which is the becoming popular at households are the green iguanas. The iguanas may differ in their appearance and types but they all are similar in terms of habit, diet and size.

1. Vegetarian iguanas.
Herbivore refers to group depends mainly on plant and plant materials for food. It should be noted that many reptiles cannot live eating just plant food. This makes the iguanas unique from others. This might be a reason why many people choose iguanas for pets. Feeding them is quite easy when compared to other pets.

Just because iguanas are herbivores, it doesn?t mean any plant will just do good as iguana foods. Nutritious leafy and green vegetables should be considered giving to maintain your iguana?s health. Lettuce could be tried, also can be given regularly. If the abundance in vegetable supply is less, alternate sources such as leafy plants can be considered.

2. Tropical climate.
Iguanas are quite used in having tropical temperatures throughout the year. This is also a reason why iguana?s habitat is not found in places having much variation in hot and clod climate.

This is an important factor to be considered while buying an iguana. Temperature of the shelter or house provided to them should be monitored regularly.

Constant heat is required by iguanas to maintain their body?s temperature. There will be increase in use of gas or electric heaters by the owners once they get a pet iguana at their household.

So people living in places having winter seasons must be sure that their heaters work. If a reliable heat source is not available, then it is not a wise idea to have a pet iguana.

3. Taming an iguana.
No pet iguana will get tamed by itself. It is the responsibility of the owner to make sure to tame your pet iguana well so that the iguana can socialize well with others and as well as with you.

A tamed iguana can be let to roam around the house freely as you can be sure that the iguana will not put its mouth into or fiddle with anything that may raise its curiosity. It can also be taken along with you to events outside your home or even just outdoors. Taming your iguana well will also allow you to hold, cuddle and caress them whenever you want as you can be assured that you will not be harmed doing so.

4. Iguanas are big.
The owners can be misled easily that iguanas will remain tiny and small throughout its life. This is a sure misconception.

Any type of iguanas have the ability to grow to its full size of 5 to 6 feet long in a period of three to four years, but only when proper care is taken by the owner on them.
